Six skiers found dead in the Hautes-Alpes – Europe1

Six people were killed in the massive Queyras. Three skiers in the French Alpine Club were found dead in the night from Saturday to Sunday, avalanche victims in this lovely Hautes-Alpes. The bodies of three of their companions, missing, were found Sunday, said the prefecture to Europe 1.

More news since Saturday. The six skiers had been heard of since Saturday afternoon. Hikers comprised an experienced group of four men and two women of French nationality, aged 50 to 70 years. They left Saturday morning for a ski trip, were victims of a major snow slide that would have triggered their passage. They had begun their ascent to the ski lifts of Ceillac ski resort and had to return Saturday. According to the prefecture, “when they left, the sky was clear and the risk of avalanche estimated at 3 out of 5″. These are their relatives, anxious not to see them back on time, who alerted the emergency.

Research interrupted in the night. The research was interrupted in the night, around 1:00 am, “because of climatic conditions on site, which made rescue work perilous. Their safety was not guaranteed, “said the Prefect of the Hautes-Alpes, Pierre Besnard. The high mountain police squad (PGHM) Briançon installed a command post in the hall of Ceillac and from daybreak, 18 aid workers, supported by a helicopter and two dog teams, had resumed the search. The three bodies found in the night had to be repatriated “at daybreak” by helicopter.

Four others died in the week. The week was marked by several tragedies in mountain. Two worn skiers missing in the Ecrins, still in the Hautes-Alpes, were found dead Thursday morning, also caught up in an avalanche. It was a guide of the Hautes-Alpes, aged 51, and his client Marseille 60, who moved in an off-piste area. In Valloire, Savoy, is a 46 year old woman who was buried Friday in a snow slide while she was finishing the ascent of the peak Cerces, which rises to 3,097 meters. And in Chamonix, Haute-Savoie, is a British skier thirties who made a fatal fall in an area reserved for very experienced skiers.
