Mexico: forty dead in clashes between … – FranceTV info

This is one of the bloodiest episodes the war against drugs waged by the authorities in Mexico. At least 42 suspected cartel members and one federal police officer were killed, Friday, May 22, in clashes in the west of the country.

The National Security Commissioner states that it this is only a provisional assessment. He added that “42 alleged criminals were shot dead and three others arrested ,” and a federal police officer was killed. It’s is one of the worst clashes Mexico has known since the launch in late 2006 by Felipe Calderon, then president of a major military offensive against the cartels. Today, President Enrique Peña Nieto, elected in December 2012, continues this fight.

The clashes began after security forces came under fire from a suspect vehicle that they had arrested. The armed men on board were then cut on a ranch nearby, where there have been several exchanges of fire with the police.

It is very likely that the gunmen opened fire are part of the drug trafficking cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (Jalisco New Generation). This cartel has become the number one enemy of the Mexican government in recent months.
