Municipal: the Socialist bastion Clichy switches – Liberation

Right consolidated its supremacy Sunday in the second round of partial municipal elections in the Hauts-de-Seine, Paris suburbs Department that sees its last socialist bastion disappear, Clichy.

Clichy -the-Garenne, it’s the end of decades of socialism: the list of Rémi Muzeau (Republicans-UDI-MoDem), substitute for Patrick Balkany in the National Assembly, won a resounding victory by winning 57.82% of vote, far ahead of the Socialist Julien Perez (42.18%), former director of cabinet of outgoing mayor Gilles Catoire, who ran the city from 1985 and had decided not to run again after the cancellation of the vote in 2014.

At Asnieres, bastion of right conquered by the left in 2008 but returned in 2014 by the UMP Manuel Aeschlimann, the latter, at the head of an RS-UDI list, the wins again by a comfortable margin (56.1% of votes). After a rough campaign, he beat his best enemy, the Socialist Sébastien Pietrasanta (43.9%), mayor from 2008 to 2014.

The poll of 2014, which had resulted in only 70 votes of difference between the two rivals had been invalidated because of “pressure” to vote UMP just outside several polling stations, without the involvement of Mr Aeschlimann is established.

The participation rate rose to 36.32%. The previous election was canceled following irregularities cited by Mr. Pommot its own bulletins.

In the East, the MP Anne Grommerch (LR) retains its mayor of Thionville chair to ‘After the second round, beating more than seven points (53.74%) and his Socialist rival nemesis Bertrand Mertz (46.26%), who had led the second city of Moselle from 2008 to 2014.
