Presidential: the left wing of the Socialist Party wants a primary Left – Le Point

leaders of the left wing of the PS agreed to unanimously Saturday a statement calling the party to participate in the organization of a primary to nominate the candidate of the left in the 2017 presidential election, told AFP their leader Christian Paul.

“We call on our party, the Socialist Party, to engage (…) and now take full part in the organization of citizens’ primary left and environmentalists for the 2017 election,” says text, approved at a meeting of the National Assembly officials motion B (“Left to win”).

A call for the organization of such a primary Liberation was launched in January 11, at the initiative of intellectuals and environmentalists. They will hold their first meeting Wednesday in Paris.

The text of the motion stresses that primary B would be an opportunity to “take stock” of five years, to produce “a great democratic event” to avoid the “multiplication of candidates” in the first round of the presidential and ultimately erasing the left and environmentalists.

“The ultimate reason lies in our statutes, that we must not let bury our fundamental law is very clear.. the primary is not an option left to the arbitrary, but an obligation “

As the co-founder of the Left Party refuses Jean-Luc Mélenchon a priori to participate in the exercise, the motion called B not to let “anyone a veto right on (the) primary. Everyone is free to contribute to it. But no one can stop.”

The first secretary of the PS Jean-Christophe Cambadélis left the door open to a primary, provided it concerns the whole political spectrum “(Emmanuel) Macron to Mélenchon.”

Motion B (“Left to win”) had gathered 28.5% of the votes in the first round of the Congress of Poitiers in June 2015. About 150 of its members -représentants federations parlementaires- gathered Saturday at the Assembly, according to M . Paul.

The leaders of EELV and CPF are already are already in favor of a primary. The Communist Party organized from Monday its first “Monday left – gateway 2017″ in this context. Personalities, actors and actresses of associations, trade unions and political, of the world of culture and research are invited to participate.

To Paul, the “collective decision must be made within PS two months to come, “given the possible organization of a primary.

” If the PS pretended to look away, it risks being overtaken by the debate (…) The Nominations will multiply (…) It is also a question of electoral efficiency, “said the rebellious MP.

The President Francois Hollande has so far not commented on the calls to organization of a primary. But many of his relatives have pointed to the incongruity that would represent the fact that a president to submit to such a competition.

According to several polls, supporters left about eight out of ten are in favor.
